REFERRING TO THE PAST
English refers to the past in several ways. You've probably been drilled extensively with past-tense verb forms, but you also need to know how to use certain adverbs and adjectives which indicate that events happened in the past, such as ago and past.
Try this exercise from the text to see how well you already know these terms:

SUBORDINATING PAST TIME CLAUSES
Sometimes when you interview someone, you need to explain the order of events in his or her personal history. Time clauses help to communicate when things happen in a life. They help the reader to know the order of events. This will help you when you want to describe the life of the person you are going to interview. In this exercise from the text (LAWS-1, page 162), you practice using before and after to combine clauses into meaningful sentences.

EMAILING INTERVIEWEES
Previously we practiced ways to ask for information in a professional email. Now we can apply that to the people we want to interview.
Several people have agreed to be interviewed. The first part of the assignment is to communicate with your interviewee by email, to arrange a day and time for the interview. Also, you may need to get some information from the interviewee to prepare for the interview.
Below is an exercise to help you write the first email. You must send your email by December 2.
